Volunteer with CJE — detailed guide

Part of Caribbean Jazz Expo

Your place in the programme

These briefs explain how each contribution can support CJE’s overall success. They are invitations to explore an agreed role, not automatic appointments or editorial grants.

Everyone is welcome to propose a contribution. Only a representative explicitly approved by the Merchant may control wording and imagery in an assigned CJE section. An enquiry, stakeholder role or expression of interest gives no editorial access. CJE retains publication control; permissions for official statements, brands and imagery still apply.

Help deliver the programme through clearly assigned duties, supervision and safe working conditions.

Possible roles

  • Artist welcome and scheduled hospitality support.
  • Accreditation, front-of-house and information assistance.
  • Production support within the person’s training and authorised scope.
  • Approved fundraising support and beneficiary-led activities.
  • Accessibility assistance and community liaison under supervision.

What must be agreed

Provide a role description, supervisor, hours, briefing, training, meals or expenses where offered, emergency procedures and a complaints route. Volunteering does not promise accommodation, payment or career access unless agreed in writing.

Safeguarding comes first

No unsupervised contact with vulnerable people, no home visits without beneficiary approval and suitability checks, and no collection of medical or abuse disclosures through promotional channels. Volunteers do not provide medical care, counselling or investigative services without appropriate qualifications and authorisation.

Respect and accountability

Protect personal information and fundraising records, declare conflicts and report concerns privately to the named safeguarding lead. No harassment, coercion, retaliation or quid-pro-quo demands. Participation never grants broad Gateway access.
